We all know the phrase "it takes a village to raise a child", emphasing the need to have community support for worthwhile projects. No where is this more evident locally than in our Pittsford Friends of the Library book sales.
To start with, these sales would not exist without the continuing generous donations to the Friends from our Community of an amazing array of desirable books in nice condition, books we would all be glad to have. We are often astounded by both the quality & the volume of the treasures you entrust to us.
But that is just the beginning. The Friends have many dedicated, knowledgeable & enthusiastic volunteers who spend countless hours most days in our Sorting Room, right across from the main Library entrance. They have to assess, determine relevance & value, & then sort donations into dozens of categories for the ease of our sale patrons. It is a never ending & often difficult & exhausting process. It can be fun, but it can also be hard work!
Preparing for & managing our sales is another challenging & complex process, & it again takes many hours to set up, manage, control finances & then clean up afterwards by our volunteers. Those in charge put in long exhausting hours.
This most recent sale generated almost ten thousand dollars! As a result, our Library directly benefits by your generosity, as the thousands of dollars we generate annually from our sales are used at the Library's discretion to obtain books, materials, systems, programs, lectures & technology to help the Pittsford Community Library maintain its position as one of the best libraries in Upstate New York, & perhaps in the entire state. So ...
An appreciation to all of you for all you do to help our Community. Together we continue to make Pittsford a wonderful place to live, work & play. Please stop by our Sorting Room to say hello. We are all proud of our Library's role as the heart of of our Community!
The following array of photos will give you some perspective on this complex process that goes on every week all year long. And thanks again for your support.
